FOX Sports Next Top 50 - Week 5

Santa Margarita quarterback Johnny Stanton is out for the season, his injury, and a host of upsets shake up the FOX Sports Next Top 50.

Arguably the most valuable player in the Top 50, quarterback Johnny Stanton of Santa Margarita in California played three quarters on a torn ACL Friday night. He led his team to a come back win against a powerful St. Bonaventure squad.

With Stanton out for the year, Santa Margarita is out of the Top 50. These are rankings and not standings, and without their best player, Santa Margarita doesn't have the look of a Top 50 team... yet.

Here is a look at the rest of the Top 50's action from last week and a preview for next week with more showdowns looming.

John Curtis (4-0) River Ridge, LA

Curtis had little trouble against Cohen in a 56-0 win. Cohen was winless on the season, and the schedule serves up another winless sacrificial lamb in Riverside.

Last: Def Cohen 56-0
Next: 9/28 Riverside (0-5)
3 (4)
Trinity (5-0) Louisville, KY

Trinity came off its big win against St. Xavier (OH) with another solid win over a good Indianapolis Cathedral team. The schedule gets a breather and the 10/27 showdown with Moeller lost some luster with Moeller's loss to St. Xavier.

Last: Def Cathedral (IN) 24-16
: 9/28
St. Xavier (KY) (4-2)
4 (5)
Bellevue (4-0) Bellevue, WA

Last: Def Lake Washington 56-0
Next: 9/28
Juanita (2-2)
5 (7)
Katy (3-0) Katy, TX

Morton Ranch brings a 3-0 record to Katy, but the Tigers should have little trouble with the Mavericks. Both teams were off last week.

Next: 9/27 Morton Ranch (3-0)

Byrnes (5-0) Duncan, SC

Boling Springs did a better job of slowing down Byrnes, but it was still a four touchdown game. Byrnes can probably name its score this week against Spartanburg.

Last: Def Boling Springs 35-7
: 9/28
@ Spartanburg (2-3)
7 (11)
St. Ignatius (5-0) Cleveland, OH

After back to back wins, the state of Pennsylvania will be happy to be done with St. Ignatius. The Wildcats come back home to take on Glenville who seems to have rebounded from its opening week loss.

Last: Def McDowell (PA) 34-10
: 9/2
9 Glenville (4-1)
8 (10)
Vista Murrieta (4-0) Murrieta, CA

Last: Def Cathedral Catholic 21-10
Next: 9/28 @ Palisades (2-2)
9 (13)
DeSoto (4-0) DeSoto, TX

DeSoto moved to 4-0 with a 48-35 win over a solid Cedar Hill team. South Grand Prairie is 2-2 with two tough losses to Mansfield and Martin. DeSoto needs to be on its toes.

University will start to get antsy over the next two weeks. The Suns' were scheduled to play Treasure Coast before its bye week, but that game was cancelled. University will have nearly three weeks between games.

Last: Idle
Next: 10/4 Chaminade-Madonna (3-0)
11 (15)
De La Salle (4-0) Concord, CA

De La Salle isn't likely to be challenged the rest of the season, and a 3-0 Granada team proved to be no match, and neither will Livermore.

Last: Def Granada 48-14
Next: 9/28 Livermore (2-2)
12 (16)
Allen (4-0) Allen

Allen shellacked a good Hebron team 42-17 at home. The Eagles are flying high, and will need to continue its good work as they leave the friendly confines to travel to a very good Coppell squad.

Last: Def Hebron 42-17
Next: 9/28 @ Coppell (4-0)
13 (17)
Butler (5-0) Matthews, NC

Butler has scored 40+ in four of its five games without giving up double digits in any of them. East Mecklenburg won't change that trend.

Last: Def Rocky River 40-6
Next: 9/28 East Mecklenburg (0-6)

Last: Lost to St. Joseph Regional 38-37
Next: 9/29 Passaic County (3-0)
16 (18)
Bishop Gorman (3-1) Las Vegas, NV

Bishop Gorman beat a Servite team that is a shadow of its former self. The Gaels won't be challenged the rest of the season. If anyone plays them within 20, I'd consider it an upset.

Last: Def Servite 42-0
: 9/28
Legacy (1-3)

Lincoln (3-0) Tallahassee, FL

Lincoln let off the gas pedal against Florida State Univ. two weeks ago, but the Trojans showed no such mercy against Chiles last week. Rickards should provide a good test for Lincoln.

Last: Def Chiles 54-7
Next: 9/28 Chiles (2-1)

North Allegheny (4-0) Wexford, PA

The Tigers put another dominating performance on the books against Pine-Richland. North Allegheny's last three games have a combined score of 128-13. The score is likely to be lopsided again this week against Butler with Gateway looming on 10/5.

Miami Central (1-2) Miami, FL

Miami Central deserved a week off after its brutal opening three game stretch that included three FOX Sports Next Top 50 teams including No. 1 Manatee. The schedule doesn't exactly lighten up much with Columbus on the docket.

Last: Idle

Washington (3-1) Miami, FL

If there was any doubt Washington was back on track after its convincing win over Cedar Hill two weeks ago, those questions were answered as the Tornadoes blew out a good Jones team from Orlando. It's a quick turnaround this from Saturday to Thursday, but Washington should handle Edison.

Last: Def Jones 68-13

Archbishop Moeller (5-0) Cincinnati, OH

We wondered if Moeller was looking ahead when it inched by Kentucky's St. Xavier. Nope. Turns out, Moeller wasn't as good as we thought as Ohio's St. Xavier took them to the woodshed.
