Coeur d'Alene QB visits Wazzu this weekend

QB FROM IDAHO DRAWING NOTICE

TUCKED AWAY NEAR the Idaho-Washington border, prep prospects can have a hard time getting noticed out on the recruiting trail in Coeur d'Alene. But quarterback Gunnar Amos isn't your typical prospect. This Saturday, he and a fellow teammate will be in Pullman for WSU's Junior Day event.

Amos has been hearing from the Cougs consistently since September and although an offer isn't yet on the table, he told CF.C it's something he hopes comes soon.

"I would love to go play there," Amos said. "They're definitely my number one choice right now. What QB wouldn't want to go play for a coach who likes to throw the ball 40 times a game?

"With Coach Leach being there and the new facilities being built, it's all coming together for Washington State. It would be a good place to go and start winning."

AMOS IS COMING off a junior season where he threw for over 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns.

His season was highlighted by a gutsy performance in Coeur D'Alene's 39-21 victory over Mercer Island on Sept. 8. In that game, Amos went 27-of-44 for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

Similar to his teammate Chase Blakley (look for a CF.C article on him later today), Amos was in contact with area recruiter and linebackers coach Jeff Choate throughout the fall. However, with Choate leaving for UTEP, Amos said he is yet to have a one-on-one with the coaches.

It's something that has him even more excited to get to the Palouse this weekend.

"I'm just looking forward to meeting some of the new coaches and getting to talk with our new area recruiter," Amos said. "It will get me a chance to learn more about the program and the school.

"I think it should be a pretty fun day, though. I went to Pullman for the Cal game and the Apple Cup this season. I went to their junior camp last year too and each time I've enjoyed myself."

The 6-1, 185-pound QB currently holds an offer from Idaho State, but is hearing from UW, Eastern, Idaho, UTEP, BYU and several others in addition to Washington State.
